As the Supertrees of Gardens by the Bay illuminate at night and the sounds of prayers echo from the minarets of Kampong Glam, Sin Chew Collection firmly believes that the soul of Singaporean home living lies in the symbiosis of cutting-edge technology and the warmth of tradition. We collaborated with Nanyang Technological University to develop a smart storage system, commissioned a veteran embroiderer from Katong to replicate traditional beadwork techniques, and even drew inspiration from the vibrant atmosphere of hawker centers. Sideboard drawers mimic the stacked structure of laksa bowls, sofa cushions are printed with Hainanese chicken rice sauce recipes, and even the trash can is shaped like the Merlion, with a sensor-activated lid that plays the sounds of hawkers from the HDB estate. Every object carries a memory of the city: wardrobe handles are reminiscent of ironwork window grilles from the old market, and the dressing table mirror features a built-in smart display showing the weather forecast and the Bedok Reservoir tide times.
The day I met third-generation rattan weaver Ah Ming at Geylang Serai Market, he was reinforcing traditional rattan with carbon fiber. "Good design should be like Singapore's racial harmony—each with its own beauty, all sharing beauty." This motto inspired our "Symbiosis Series": the "Transformable Hawker Table," designed for HDB flats, unfolds as a dining table and folds into a storage cabinet, its surface engraved with auspicious proverbs in various dialects; the "Seaview Storage Wall," custom-made for a seaside villa, is made of waterproof teak and solar glass, with a built-in tidal-sensing automatic ventilation system; even the pet kennel is shaped like a miniature HDB flat, equipped with a smart feeder and air purification system. When traditional craftsmanship meets smart technology, it's like chili crab with an ice-cold beer: spicy yet refreshing.
Last month, I received an email from the Housing and Development Board of Singapore: They are using our "HDB Optimization System" for the renovation of mature communities. This solution, which includes foldable furniture, vertical storage, and smart lighting, increases the space utilization of three-room HDB flats by 40%. "These designs breathe new life into old HDB flats, just as Marina Bay transformed from a swamp into an international landmark." It turns out that Sin Chew Collection's creations weren't just about furniture; they were about a spatial philosophy that expands the possibilities of living in a densely populated city. When the aroma of kopi-o wafts through the window in the morning, and when the laughter of neighbors echoes downstairs in the evening, you'll understand: the essence of home is for every object to become a bridge connecting the past and the future, forever preserving that Singaporean practicality and warmth in the fast-paced city.
